Synaptik grew out of a frustration shared by a small group of technologists and educators in Kuching. Online AI courses were either shallow overviews that left learners with no real capability, or dense academic tracks that assumed you already had years of programming behind you. Neither served the motivated but newer learner particularly well.
We started by running small, informal workshops out of a shared office on Jalan Tabuan. The sessions were practical and unpolished — participants brought laptops, we worked through code together, and questions were answered honestly, including "we don't know yet." What those sessions showed us was that the format worked better than anything slicker we'd seen. People retained more, built more, and felt more confident leaving than they did after watching hours of pre-recorded content.
Synaptik's online programmes carry that same spirit into a more structured form. Each one is designed around project work and mentor feedback, not passive consumption. The three tracks — Foundations, ML Engineering, and Advanced AI Development — are built to follow on from each other and to be honest about what each one covers and what it doesn't.
We're based in Kuching and work with learners across Malaysia. Our team is small, our cohorts are deliberately kept to a manageable size, and we're careful about what we say a learner will walk away with.

We describe our programmes plainly. We won't claim a programme will make you an expert in eight weeks or promise employment outcomes. What we will do is teach well and tell you exactly what you're getting into before you sign up.

Syafiq Razlan
Lead Instructor, ML Engineering
Syafiq spent eight years working on data pipelines and ML systems at technology companies in Kuala Lumpur before returning to Sarawak. He leads the Machine Learning Engineering Track and designs the structured project workflow used across all programmes.
Nadia Khoo
Programme Director & AI Educator
Nadia has a background in applied mathematics and has been teaching programming and data science for over six years. She shapes the overall curriculum structure at Synaptik and leads the AI Foundations Programme, with a focus on making early concepts genuinely accessible.
Hafiz Amir
Senior Mentor, Advanced AI & Deployment
Hafiz has worked on deep learning model fine-tuning and production deployment across projects in Malaysia and Singapore. He leads the Advanced AI Development & Deployment Programme and provides one-to-one mentoring for capstone participants.

These are the concrete commitments that shape how each programme runs from start to finish.
Curriculum reviewed each cohort
We review programme content after every cohort. If tools have moved on or exercises weren't working well, we update them before the next intake opens.
Feedback on actual work
Mentors review and comment on participant code and project submissions directly. Feedback is specific and written by a person — not an automated checker.
Privacy handled responsibly
Participant information is used only for programme delivery and communication. We don't pass personal data to third parties for promotional purposes.
Small cohort sizes
Each cohort is kept small so mentors can give real attention to each participant. We don't scale cohort sizes beyond what the mentor team can reasonably support.
Real tools and workflows
Programmes use the same tools practitioners use day-to-day — Python, common ML libraries, version control, and deployment environments. Nothing invented for teaching purposes only.

Practical AI education in Malaysia, built for working adults
Synaptik operates at the intersection of technical education and working practice. Our three programmes — AI Foundations, Machine Learning Engineering, and Advanced AI Development & Deployment — are structured to give participants real working knowledge in Python, data handling, model building, and deployment, with each programme building coherently on the one before it.
The school is located in Kuching, Sarawak, and our learners come from across Malaysia. Online delivery means participants can engage from wherever they are, while the live session component keeps the experience connected and conversational. Mentors who deliver the programmes have worked in the field themselves, which shapes how exercises and feedback are framed — toward practical understanding rather than theoretical correctness alone.
AI development as a discipline changes quickly. The tools that were standard two years ago have often been superseded. We keep our curriculum reviewed and updated between cohorts, which means the techniques and environments taught in any given intake reflect current practice rather than an archived snapshot of it. Participants leave with skills and a portfolio that reflect where the field actually is.
